Dr. Barral is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Math and Natural Sciences.
Dr. Barral comes from a background of basic research in cancer biology and microbiology. She earned her PhD in medical cell biology from the University of Linkoping (Sweden) and did her postdoctoral work at the La Jolla Institute for Allergy and Immunology in San Diego. After a couple of years working for a biotech company, she felt that teaching was her real calling. She has taught at National University since 2005 as an adjunct and became a full time faculty in 2012. Dr. Barral is very engaged in the scholarship of teaching, particularly in STEM disciplines, both online and onsite. She is involved in multiple national and international active learning initiatives. Her laboratory research is related to microbes attaching to ocean plastic.
